Motorcycle Tyres for Track

Type 3 - The most popular of the compounds, the Type 3 is classed as a medium tyre and is what you would find on the front and rear of almost any track motorcycle running the R10s.

Type 2 - This compound is available only for the rear tyre and is classed as 'hard'. Bridgestone have labelled it 'endurance' and the general advice is to use it in colder temperatures to counteract cold tear.

Continental Race Attack Comp

Lastly we have a fairly new contender that has come into the road legal track tyre arena for 2012, the Continental Race Attack Comp. They have been designed and priced to go head to head with the likes of the ever popular Racetecs and Supercorsas.

It's early days yet and it really needs a couple of seasons with the racers to truly gauge how well they're doing, but early reports are that they are getting great feedback from early adopters. If you fancy a go, now would be a great time while the prices are lower as Continental attempt to shoe horn themselves in this end of the market.

The RaceAttack Comp can be had in three compounds which are soft, medium and endurance. Being new I can't say exactly how each compound will be used, but right now on the track day and race scene people seem to be opting for a medium front and endurance rear for the best balance of grip and tyre life.

A place I get motorcycle tires

Gives discount for cash... sometimes cash comes in handy. At my work the food goes on sale 1/2 price at 2PM, but their clock is jacked up so they can't process the transaction till about 2:05. Those of us who have cash grab our food, head to the front of the line, and pay... the food guy sets the cash aside until the computer on the resister things its 2PM... so, cash gets head of line and first pick of food

From what i seen in the "For Sale" section of CL

I see where people will put something up for sale at a reasonable price and bam it is sold, and within an hour i see the exact same item including the same photo posted in the original ad for sale again at a higher price, people flip products like crazy on craigslist, i recently flipped a motorcycle and made 500 bucks on it and the only thing i did to it was put used tires on it that had good tread and 20 dollars worth of Krylon Rustoleum spray paint in a can because the paint was scratched up, so i repainted it in about an hour since there is not much to paint on a motorcycle (fenders & tank)

Time is money! You snooze you lose

Salesmen, pay attention, here's a customer speaking. I was a serious buyer, yet got ignored by one salesman and he probably lost the sale.
First I called my usual Honda motorcycle dealer and ordered some OEM parts, but also got quotes on tires. He didn't have much to offer and quoted me on Bridgestones, which according to my research later were the bottom of the range. Front and rear, he quoted $230 tax included.
Then I asked my mechanic for advice, he says choose other brands like Michelin and that he has a contact named so and so at another shop.

I ride an 06 cbr1rr and go thru tires fast! What are some good new tires for street/track performance?

    • Go to YouTube and do a search for, Two Clicks Out. It may give you some help. Some tire wear problems can be traced back to improper setup on your bikes suspension. If your rear suspension is too stiff then the back tire will go away much quicker.

I have a rear tire w/ less than 1m on it that had a nail stuck in it. I have heard that the tire can be vulcanized and good as new. I ve also heard both opinions on plugging and patching them. Does anyone have any thoughts or opinons on this?

    • Some punctures in motorcycle tires may be repaired, however you should only try to permanent plug-patch repairs of small (maximum 1/4-inch diameter) tread area punctures from within the dismounted tire by a qualified tire repair shop or motorcycle dealer. Temporary repair should not be attempted because secondary damage caused by a penetrating object may not be detected and tire or tube deflation may occur at a later date. Liquid sealants are a form of temporary repair, and they may adversely affect ply material and mask secondary damage caused by a penetrating object. Reliance upon sealants …
