Metzeler Introduces Sportec M5 Interact Tires - Motorcycle USA

Meltzer’s mission is to constantly develop state-of -art technological products aimed to answer motorcycle riders' needs and expectations. The awareness of these needs encourages them to be focused on them and their desires. Metzeler has been producing tires for two-wheel vehicles since 1892, and its history goes hand in hand with the history of motorcycles.

In 2000, Metzeler introduced the new Metzeler ME 880 in the size of 240/40 R 18 to meet the demands of tuners world wide. With a width of 243 millimeters it was the world's widest motorcycle tire. It also featured the patented 0° steel belted technology. In 2005 they introducted the ultimate Supersport tire SPORTEC M3 and the extraordinary successful Enduro F.I.M. tire MCE 6 Days Extreme, developed with World Champion Factory Teams. Further the new Lasertec for mid-sized motorcycles and pre-vintage models and the new Scooter tire FeelFree.

From the introduction of new materials to the development of innovative tread designs and compounds, the German manufacturer has always been on the leading edge for technical innovation and superior quality and performance of its tires. All these developments for the world of motorcycles, which seemed sometimes to be impossible, shows that Metzeler, with it's more than 100 years of experience in development of high quality motorcycle tires, is looking forward to a very interesting future. I Almost Took My Tire Biz To KC Today But...

I was in the market for a new set of Metzeler Z6 Roadtecs for my Ducati. I called KC because they open early but they wanted $400 for the set tires installed. Ouch.
So I did the smart thing. I got some coffee, thought about it and then rode over to that other motorcycle shop on Geary & Larkin. Got my Z6's for $329 installed all said and done. In and out in less than an hour.
Market forces at work indeed!

Any New Tire Will Be Good

All new motorcycle tires from any of the major manufacturers will be good in the wet/dry. Any recommendations of one tire over another is basically just personal preference. In other words all your choices are good choices.

  • Avatar R What kind of motorcycle tire is good for the highway?

I have an 07 GSXR and the rear tire has an obvious flat spot from (i guess) a lot of highway miles. Is there a brand or type of tire that s very hard in the center but still as sticky as a cheap tire on the sides for when I want to take the twisties?

    • M3 are for Superroad, while the Roadtec Z6 allow the twisties with more miles in the center. My ME88 s are giving my cruiser twice the miles as old tires me with no lost on traction in the twisties.

Has any one found a particular make of motorcycle tyre that s more suited to a sidecar rig? I do know Avon make a range just wondering if there are any other options. Thanks.

    • Avon are the big boys when it comes to sidecar tyres but Metzeler do one as well called a block-K i think. Definitely available in the US, not sure about UK.
